We've been eagerly waiting for these to get ripe.  It was well worth the wait.  They are an incredible rich and sweet tomato that's very meaty.  It wasn't long from the picture below till they looked even better on a BLT!  We'll be growing these again next year for sure.

mmmm Pizza! 09/26/2010

We've been wanting to try grilling pizza for some time now and finally made time to do so.  We made a homemade crust and grilled one side of it and then turned it over and put the toppings on the just grilled side.  We had one with homemade pesto sauce and one with our roasted tomato sauce.  We topped them with capers, artichoke hearts, onions, basil, tomatoes and cheese and put them back on the grill.  OMG we'll definitely be grilling more pizza.

The weather has been great for the end of September and is allowing a lot of our tomatoes to finally ripen.  We got to try our first Brandywine Sudduth's this week.  It was as good as people had described and we can't wait for a few more to ripen.

We've had a good production of red zebra tomatoes this year.  They are a zippy little tomato and we've enjoyed them on sandwiches and salsa.  The green zebra's are finally starting to ripen.  They are tangy and have a slight citrus flavor to them.  They were one of our favorites last year and we're looking forward to more to come in this year.

We finally had a couple of Opalka and one Aunt Ruby's German Green ripen.  The Opalka is definitely the best paste tomato I've tasted.  I can't wait to get enough in to make a batch of sauce with them.  I regret not planting more than 2 plants and next year will have several of these growing.  .

We got to taste our first carbon,  black from tula, hailey's purple comet and red zebra.  The carbon had a nice rich flavor.  We're finding we really like the black tomatoes and this one was no exception.  The Black from Tula had a nice flavor as well but very sweet and smooth.  Hailey's Purple Comet was good, but since we only had one little guy and shared it, I'd have to taste a few more for the full experience.  I liked it, but not nearly as much as Black Cherry.  The Red Zebra  was a very nice zippy fruit.  I can't wait for more to ripen so we can get a better comparison.

We had a huge wind storm come through last night with winds from 50-70 mph.  We were lucky to only have 3 rows of tomatoes knocked over and just some minor damage to a few branches.  At least the storm brought in some cool weather and it was nice outside to spend the day fixing the rows and re-tying tons of branches of tomatoes.
